Fresh out the Box

- Backstory
- Cosmetic: The overall look of the site is clean with a fresh, optimistic palette, there is a degree of graffiti inspired styling without overdoing the 'urban' feel – this subtle look is more contemporary, less likely to date quickly and avoids alienating different users. The look is young, fresh accessible and unisex. Two typefaces have been selected for graphic use, ideally these would become a core part of the JUiCE brand and used across all promo activity, banners etc where possible. This will strengthen the brand and create increased recognition. Large, clear typography is used to aid accessibility and legibility. Content: The existing JUiCE site has a somewhat confusing and unfocused navigation and content structure, so the information architecture has been slightly reworked in order to present primary areas which are more focused toward both JUiCE's existing members and to provide the most engaging content for potential new members. These areas contain more relevant information that should aim to be updated regularly with 'sticky' content. The naming of these areas has also been changed in order to be more obvious and also to sound more relevant and catchy to JUiCE users. The secondary navigation areas are more focused toward professionals/potential funders etc. Navigation remains global. Primary navigation • What's happening (previously calender) • The Elements • Juice Store • Hall of Fame (previously gallery) • Get in touch (previously contact) Secondary navigation: • About us • Donate • Volunteer • Press • FAQ Content structure is easily explained by looking a at the Sitemap at the bottom of the page, this map can appear at the bottom of all pages to aid navigation and assist with SEO. The site uses a 960px wide 12 column grid which provides maximum flexibility on lower level pages, this grid allows the YouTube video to be positioned at their default HD width and the right hand column is 300px wide, which is an industry standard width for MPU banners should advertising be considered at any point. This column can be used to promote JUiCE initiatives and events throughout the site. I have stuck with YouTube for video content as this is still by far the most popular video site, particularly with young people and has a much more active social aspect. Vimeo is more the choice of media professionals. I have taken existing 'mission' copy from the site and reworded slightly so that it talks more directly to service users. The main feature area can contain either embedded video or graphic banners with a side box for a brief explanatory text to lead the user deeper into the site. Important features have been added to the right hand column enabling users to quickly enquire about volunteering opportunities, make donations or sign-up for the JUiCE newsletter. Users can also quickly add/follow JUiCE on their preferred social networking sites. Recent News & Announcements are featured on the homepage with click-throughs to the full article, which would live within the 'What's happening' area.
